So I probably should have expected this – given where she works but yesterday Nina casually mentioned to me she owns 300 pairs of shoes! In fact she has so many shoes she can’t fit them in her bedroom anymore and they now have pride of place in her living room.

I was sceptical at first (and a little ashamed of my small collection) so she has provided me with photographic evidence. Check it out! Talk about dedication to her job!

All this has prompted me to wonder how many others have enormous she collections. Is anyone out there close to Nina’s collection? Maybe even more? Let us know.

And then we started wondering, who owns the largest shoe collection in the whole world? Maybe it’s Nina and we need to get her into the Guinness Book of World Records.

After some quick googling, I can report that Darlene Flynn of Temecula, California, has the biggest shoe collection in the world – she owns more than 11,000 shoe- related items.
This includes thousands of shoe trinkets like ornaments, furniture shaped like shoes, and about 300 pairs of wearable kicks. Read more here.

And then I started to wonder about Imelda Marcos. Surely she must have held the record when she was at her shoe peak? Turns out she owned 1200 pairs. If you are looking for a history lesson (and a glimpse into the shoes they discovered in Imelda’s shoe closet.) And just in case you were wondering – Imelda was a size 81/2.

While I was hard at work researching I also discovered this pretty cool video that features the largest touring sneaker collection. Please note there are some cool shoes in this but it does come with a language warning.

So here’s a challenge for all you shoe addicts out there. Who can beat Nina?
