An article in Harper’s Bazaar quotes Paola Bay, a shoe designer as believing that some fashion heels have reached dangerous new heights.

The economy is down, but they have found a way to still make money, ensuring sure that we girls need help by introducing super-dizzy heels. The definition of the iconic high heel is being reinterpreted to include 15 centimetre skyscraper stilettos.

If you buy this crazy footwear, make sure you have someone to keep you standing balanced at all times. You need a strong man to look after you and keep you upright as Mrs Beckham did with her such-a-nice husband while wearing Berardi’s vertiginous boots at the launch of the couple’s latest fragrance in New York in late 2008. For those who haven’t seen them, Antonio Berardi has designed a boot without heels – the designer suggests walking on tiptoe.

Now, I know this is the crazy world of fashion but I’m not sure it isn’t relevant to us everyday people. So many people come into the store and have a look of utter bliss and astonishment when they realise that the sexy red shoes they fell in love with in the window are actually comfortable and you can actually…wait for it…walk in them.
