Want to know more about Barefoot running? Check out this TED Talk

If you have any interest in Barefoot running, own a pair of Vibram Five Fingers or have read Born to Run by Christopher McDougall this is a really cool video from the TED series.

We’re not saying we believe it (but it has to be said the majority of our staff own a pair of five fingers). We’re not saying it is right for everyone. We are saying feet matter and what you put on your feet matters.

Attention all runners and ipod owners

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Five Fingers are still selling (a lot) in both our Brisbane and Sydney stores. Although everyone seems to have a slightly different reason for buying them, one of the most common uses is for running (I know….I know….we’ve been through this before).

So I thought some of you guys might be interested to know that if you have an iphone, you can download a seriously fantastic app called Runkeeper. Using gps technology, it tracks you as you move through your run and then tells you how far you went, how fast and how long it took. It syncs to your computer and send you emails that tell you when you have achieved a personal milestone (it considered my first run, a personal best).

I’m guessing it’s not a great plan if you happen to be on the run from the law though….

And if you want to look really cool at the same time check out Lorna Jane sports wear

Introducing our shoe of the month

If you feel like creating some controversy, walk up to anyone who is into running and say something like “running barefoot is the only way to run.”

And then duck.

Fivefingers are our new great love. Not beautiful – sure but really, really comfy.

Here’s what their website has to say about them.

Wearing Vibram FiveFingers is more than a choice of footwear. It demonstrates trust in our body’s natural ability to handle physical demands without heel wedges, gels, air, pronation control, ankle support or rockers.

We are designed to walk, run and play.. barefoot.  There is no secret that allows the Masai to move with such effortless grace, just a lifetime of barefoot movement. With this understanding of how we are made, we can liberate ourselves from the ideology that has most of us wearing shoes before we can stand.

FiveFingers are the first performance footwear that don’t try to alter your foot’s natural movement, but allow all the benefits of going barefoot with a gecko-like grip and protection from the elements.

So for the month of September we are making these fabulous shoes our “Shoe of the Month.”

Now I know, I know, they look weird but Vibram Five fingers are really, really moving.

According to Nina who knows all about such things, FiveFingers are a bit of an internet fad at the moment. Judging by the different ways that customers are thinking of to use them though, I have a feeling that there is a lot more to it than that.

The basic idea is that the Vibram Five Fingers allow you to use the natural movement of your foot while still protecting the soul.

Because of this, we have had lots of customers coming in to buy them for running in. Other customers are buying them for watersports, or orienteering. Continued…
