Why do my feet hurt?

So…you’re feet hurt, aye?

You’re lying in bed, all warm and comfortable. You get up. Your feet hurt. By the time you get to the bathroom you are in excruciating pain.

You may be suffering from Plantar Fasciitis – inflammation of the ligament that supports the arch of your foot. But don’t stress…we can help you! And you don’t have to wear ugly shoes.

What is Plantar Fasciitis, you may ask? It often comes about when extra strain and stress is put on the fibrous tissue eg. weight gain, sports activities, a weak flat foot, unsupportive shoes, or extended hours of standing on hard floors. As mentioned above, the pain for most is at its worst in the morning when first standing up.

There are many commonly recommended treatments to help your feet throughout this pain. Such include:

  • alternating between hot and cold packs (applied to the heel for about five minutes)
  • rest of reduced activity (refraining from sports, running, walking long distances)
  • Cortisone-Steroid injections (into the heel bone, usually performed by a GP)
  • a program of daily exercises
  • wearing a pair of supportive, comfortable shoes (which we obviously recommend)

We believe that the right choice of shoes will help your feet feel better, and will save your time and energy on some of the other recommendations listed above. For customers that come in suffering from Plantar Fasciitis, we spend time with them to find the right pair of shoes. As with many other foot problems, we will happily make many suggestions but it does come down to you putting your foot in the shoe and seeing how it feels. We often suggest shoes that offer a lot of cushioning and straps that hold the foot firmly in place. Brands can include (but not exclusive to): BeautiFeel, Naot, Rieker, Clarks, Birkenstock and El Naturalista.

Simple really.

Your feet want to work for you, so get them the right equipment and let them.
