Shoes and the greater good – is there such a thing as shoes that can help make the world a better place?

Wandering around the store on Saturday, I was amazed and impressed to notice how many of the shoes in store are produced by companies that have a social responsibility. I’ve already blogged about El Naturalista (yes it is a bit of an obsession but I’m working my way through it.) iPhoto

But that’s really just the start. Here’s what Keen say about their shoes.

This is a focus for KEEN with several initiatives. We are reducing and eliminating materials containing toxins. We are reducing the amount of waste in manufacturing our products. We are harvesting our waste stream for use in new shoes and bags. Lastly, we are using materials with sustainable attributes whenever possible.

This is their response to the question – what is Keen doing to give back to communities around the world?

KEEN established a giving program in 2005 called Hybrid.Care. We strive to be a company with a conscience by making a positive difference, giving back to the greater community and caring for the environment we share and depend on.

If you are anything like me, you are probably thinking – yeah  easy talk but I dug a bit further and found this link in their blog about a donation of shoes they made to San Andreas, Guatemala

It is definitely worth a read and wondering what we at Children of the Revolution can do to help……
